Useful information
What is worth knowing before you choose and lay a floor. If you are unsure, the shop offers advice by phone or in person.
Measuring and quantities
Measure the length and width of each room and add the areas together. Flooring is sold in whole boxes, so the quantity is rounded up to the next whole box. The square-metre calculator on every product page does this for you and shows how many boxes are needed.
Allow for cutting waste. The calculator offers a 10% cutting allowance as an optional extra — allow more for diagonal patterns or complex rooms.
Underlay
Floating floors need an underlay. The underlay evens out small irregularities, reduces impact noise and protects the floor from below. Choose the underlay according to whether you are laying on concrete or timber and whether the room has underfloor heating.
Profiles and finishing
For every type of Quick-Step laminate, engineered wood and vinyl flooring you can get 100% colour-matched skirting profiles and a stair-nosing system. Transition profiles are also available where a floating floor meets tiles.
Choosing by room
Quick-Step Cascada is the world's first 100% waterproof engineered wood floor, and Impressive has water-tight joints. Vinyl flooring and vinyl sheet are softer underfoot and suit rooms where water is a factor. Tiles are the right choice for bathrooms and the heaviest-wear areas.
